One of Art Jonker's favorite subjects
is Venice. The rows of buildings, with their almost hidden
passages between them gave Art's imagination much to work
with. He started with a postcard as a reference, rearranged the
scene a little, and transformed the sunset into a deep orangey
red. Although his tendency is toward detail, Art worked
to include just enough, while maintaining the symbolic nature
of the thick oil paints. Art credits Vincent van Gogh for
this style that he likes so much.
